Adelaide Energy Blitz

A massive, crowd-sourced energy audit campaign and a city-wide deployment of energy efficiency and solar using an innovative new app
How this will impact Adelaide's carbon emissions
Adelaide has embarked on an ambitious journey to become the world's first carbon neutral city. To reach their goal, the community will need to identify, assess and deploy energy efficiency and renewable energy projects on an unprecedented scale.
The Adelaide Energy Blitz will empower the community to transform how energy is used and generated across the city, leveraging an innovative new app and a world-first 'crowd-sourced' audit and retrofit approach.
How it works:
1. A community mobilisation campaign is launched by local community groups, councils, schools and supportive businesses combining workshops, competitions and viral marketing.
2. Households and businesses are encouraged to provide details about their building and appliances using a simple to use web and mobile app.
3. Cutting-edge simulations are performed in the cloud to deliver tailored energy action plans to each participating household and business including the estimated costs, bill savings and payback periods of each action.
4. A mass-scale deployment of energy efficiency and solar PV is engaged leveraging an 'uber-style' peer-to-peer marketplace and a bulk buy and financing platform.
In so doing, households and businesses across Adelaide will reduce their exposure to rising energy bills and dramatically reduce their contribution to climate change.
However, the Adelaide Energy Blitz is about far more than just energy. It is about community empowerment and resilience. It is about creating new job opportunities, stimulating local small businesses, and creating and enhancing local citizen participation. It is about building a shared vision of the future.
Voting has now closed for the Wildcard prize. Stay tuned to find out which project will be the 11th finalist.
