The Energy Race

Installed emon

Install affordable instantaneous energy monitoring systems of my design to sub-meter office buildings/floors and ask them to race. Lowest usage wins.

How this will impact Adelaide's carbon emissions

Adelaide CBD consists of large office buildings which are heavy consumers of electricity. There is no transparent metric on how much energy each building and each floor uses. My idea will take some landmark buildings and bring their energy usage data online for live viewing, thus incentivising implementation of energy saving measures or simply notifying interested parties if the lights have been left on.

The live power usage data will provide a track record where the most energy efficient building at the end of the day, month, year will be featured as winner of the energy efficiency race.

This kind of transparent and competitive environment will encourage building managements and companies using them to optimise their energy usage and minimise waste. In the long term the city will be better off.

Voting has now closed for the Wildcard prize. Stay tuned to find out which project will be the 11th finalist.

Great idea. I hope it gets enough votes.
